Most Australians live near the sea, which is no surprise. The beaches are plentiful and clean and the marine life breathtaking. From Perth, why not take an overland trip up the West cost to Broome, taking in the magnificent Ningaloo Marine Park and Cape Range National Park. This coast has some of the most easily accessible areas where you can see Whale Sharks and other shark species, dolphins, Manta Rays, turtles, Humpback Whales and a vast array of stunning coral reef fish species.

A visit to Cairns and the tropical north of Queensland is a must too. Tourism is big in this region, but they have managed to accommodate a large influx of visitors without spoiling the experience. The Great Barrier Reef is easily accessible from Cairns and, is without doubt, an experience of a lifetime. To get the most from a visit to the reef, you need to get wet and join the local marine life. Snorkelling or diving on the reef is easy and the clear water ensures magnificent views of the wildlife. If that’s not for you, try a semi-submarine or glass-bottom boat. There are ample opportunities to experience the tropical rainforest too if you want a change from the ocean. Excursions from Cairns and Port Douglas can take you up to the Cape York Peninsular.
