Mexico is an exciting and vibrant country, full of interest for the overseas traveller. Whether it’s the beautiful sandy beaches and warm crystal clear waters, the fascinating Mayan ruins or the exciting cities that are of interest, Mexico offers something for everyone. There are, however, a couple of possible eventualities that must be covered with travel insurance when visiting this destination.

Medical Travel Insurance

Firstly it is essential to ensure adequate medical travel insurance cover. Mexico has no reciprocal agreements with other countries when it comes to health care services and without the proper cover, any illness or injury could become very expensive. If you are already covered by a private health care plan, some of these do offer cover for overseas travel, although this is can be somewhat limited.

Cover for Theft

Mexico is relatively safe but minor thefts are likely to happen, so besides keeping that laptop, camera or mobile device safely secured at all times, ensure you are covered in case of loss or theft. Also ensure that you have cover for your luggage and other personal items, in case of loss, either in transit or at your lodgings. However, it is worth checking your household insurance policy as you may find you are already covered for this.
