South America Travel Insurance

South America travel insurance

South America and Central America are becoming increasingly popular destinations for the adventurous traveller. We issue more travel insurance for South America than we have ever done, as more and more backpackers and gap year travellers seek new and exciting destinations. We often get asked for cover from clients who are motorcycling down the Pan-American Highway from Alaska down into South America, down through Mexico, into Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.  Our Backpacker and Standard policies cover motorcycling, with no restriction on cc of the bike (subject to conditions). Our Silver and Gold policies also cover motorcycling with the same conditions, but only for 14 days per trip. This duration limit does not apply on Backpacker and Standard policies. However, trans-continental long distance motorcycle journeys involving remote regions and unmade roads will still require referral to our underwriters if there is an off-road element. Roads do not necessarily have to be tarmac, but must be the highway locally and passable by saloon car. If  in doubt, you can provide us with details of your proposed itinerary and we will approach the underwriters for a quotation.

The continent has a long list of sights that cannot be missed, making this a popular destination for long term travel. Our Long Stay travel insurance is available for durations of up to 18 months

Amazing Destinations

Even within a single vast country such as Brazil, there are so many sights to see and cultures to experience. From Salvador de Bahia in the North, with the pastel shades of the buildings in the historical old quarter and miles of beautiful beaches, or Manaus on the Amazon, giving access to this vast waterway and the wildlife of the Amazon jungle, to magnificent Rio de Janeiro. Arguably one of the most beautiful settings of a city anywhere in the world, Rio has to be seen to be believed. The glamour of Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Sugar Loaf and Corcovado, plus the dazzling nightlife all make for an unforgettable experience. The futuristic city of Brasilia is a must for a brief visit, plus the breathtaking Iguazu Falls. The beautiful location and sheer size of these waterfalls eclipses the likes of Niagara, they are simply stunning.

Angel Falls in Venezuela, Buenos Aires, The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu in Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Patagonia and the Galapagos Islands are just a few more to add to your itinerary.

South America Travel Insurance Policies

Many of the activities on an itinerary round South America can be covered on the Leisure level of our travel insurance policies. However, a trek such as the Inca Trail, which exceeds 4000m may need a referral to our underwriters for a special quotation. Call us on 0161 973 6435 and we will quote a supplement to upgrade your policy to accommodate that trek.
