Backpacker Travel Insurance Policies

Finding the best backpacker travel insurance policies can be challenging as there are a huge amount of policies available on the market and seemingly little to choose between them. Obviously, the priority for a budget traveller is getting a policy for the best value possible without sacrificing the insurance cover needed, whether you are heading out on a long-term trip around the world or just a short term backpacking break. At Navigator, we want to offer you a backpacker travel insurance policy that meets your needs.

One of the key things you need to ensure is that activities that you plan on doing on your trip are covered and, if they’re not, what the additional cost is to add them on at a later date. When travelling around the world for a long period all sorts of adventurous opportunities may arise, so it’s important that you know exactly where you stand from an insurance perspective. You might fancy some Muay Thai training in Thailand or doing a bungee jump in Peru, but whatever takes your fancy you need to be sure that your insurance covers you to participate in these sports. Many of the cheaper policies that are available do not cover them. Our Long Stay policies cover many activities as standard, though some of the more hazardous Action or Action Plus sports can only be covered on our AIG LONGSTAY & BACKPACKER, ADVENTURES or TRAVELPLUS policies. The SILVER and GOLD Long Stay policies will cover sports on the LEISURE list, but not the more hazardous activities. SILVER and GOLD Short stay and Annual Multi-Trip policies will cover a wider range of sports, but the Long Stay version is quite restrictive.

Backpackers often find themselves on the road without a clear idea of which activities they are covered for and which activities are excluded by the small print on a complicated travel insurance policy. It’s worth spending a bit of extra time when choosing your policy so you know exactly which one is best for you and you don’t find yourself stranded on the other side of the world with an illness or injury and no insurance to cover expensive hospital fees. Navigator Travel’s Travel Insurance Tips & Advice page gives you a simple breakdown of what to look out for when choosing your policy so that you don’t get burnt like this when you’re away.

Here at Navigator we want to make the process as simple as possible for backpackers, providing all the information up front in a simple and easy to understand format, as well as being available to discuss any issues personally with you if required via phone or email.

Depending on the type of trip you are taking we should have the right travel insurance policy for you. These fall into 3 main categories:

Whether you plan on taking various backpacking trips throughout the year, going on one extended long term trip or just a short backpacking holiday you should be able to get the cover you need right here. If you can’t find the information or the policy you are searching for then call us direct on 0161 973 6435 and we will do our best to find a policy that matches your needs.
