It might come as no surprise that, as a travel insurance company, we love to travel! As well as sharing some of the best travel insurance tips here on the Navigator Travel Blog, we’ll also be writing about some of our favourite destinations to visit, as well as sharing some great posts that we’ve loved reading from across the web.
Holidays in the USA are a popular choice for people from the UK, especially as flights become more affordable to whizz across the pond. Below are our 5 favourite places to visit in the USA and sample the best of this beautiful and diverse country:
New York City
NYC is high on anyone’s list when visiting the US. Everyone knows about its icons, from the Empire State Building to the Statue of Liberty. It’s hard to get bored wandering New York’s streets, taking in the hectic lives of the locals in the Big Apple as yellow taxis flash by. As far as city breaks go, it’s hard to beat a trip one of the world’s most famous cities. Grab a slice, top up your batteries and get ready to have your breath taken away.
For those heading to the USA for a beach break, it’s highly likely you’re on your way to California. But where do you choose in ‘The Golden State’, with so many fantastic towns and cities? Our personal favourite is Huntington Beach, a town in southern California which regularly places host to surfing competitions and has a huge stretch of beautiful white sands. The downtown area is also fantastic and has more of a UK town feel than the standard US towns which are often just grids with malls on the corners. This is the perfect place to chill out in the sun…
Who can come to the US and not get a taste of Sin City? Vegas is a law unto itself and like no other place on earth. Its inhabitants are from another world and you will struggle not to drop your jaw as you turn every corner and see anything from fire breathers to drunken marriages. It has to be seen to be believed.
In Western America sits the Rocky Mountains, gloriously overlooking stunning scenery and attracting tourists from all over the world. The stretch covered by the Rockies is huge – over 3,000 mi British Columbia to New Mexico and hitting a height of more than 14,000 feet above sea level. They truly are an inspiring place, and for snow lovers, they offer an incredible challenge. Winter sports are super popular and offer an amazing challenge to skiers, snowboarders and others as they try to tame the slopes. Remember to give us a shout when you’re looking for the best skiing travel insurance and winter sports travel insurance on the market 😉
Known as the USA’s second city, Chicago has some stiff competition, but it is a stunning place which invites visitors in and makes it very difficult to leave. It is packed with beautiful, towering buildings all of which seem to offer a different gem of architectural innovation. Then within ten minutes you can find yourself on a beach looking out over Lake Michigan, which might as well be an ocean as you can’t see the banks on any other side. NYC, San Fran, LA; America isn’t short of fantastic cities, but for us, Chicago is up there with the very best.
So there you have our 5 favourite US destinations, but trying to pick 5 places in somewhere as vast as America was tricky! What are your favourite places to holiday in the US? Let us know in the comments!
